Five students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), successfully participated in the AKPK Leadership Camp 2026, held at the International Youth Centre, Kuala Lumpur, where they secured a Consolation Prize and received RM100 for their outstanding participation.
Representing APU were members of APU AKPK Grow Club, Ng Si Xuan, Muhammad Ali, Hassan Hussain Khan, Muhammad Hadi, and Saad Ahmed.
The team also included a few students from UCSI University, who made substantial contributions to the team’s success.
The students were accompanied and guided by Dr Shim Pui Sen (Lecturer and Advisor of APU AKPK Grow Club, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), and were supported by APU’s Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer Professor Ir EurIng Ts Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam.

Bringing together students from 12 universities across Malaysia, the camp featured a series of experiential and interactive activities designed to cultivate sustainability-driven leadership, strengthen teamwork, and develop students’ leadership capabilities.
A Hands-On Leadership Experience

Throughout the camp, students collaborated with peers from different universities, while engaging in practical leadership scenarios that emphasised problem-solving, decision-making, and sustainable thinking, providing a strong foundation for the experiential activities that followed.

Building on this, one of the key highlights of the camp was the LEGO-based team challenge, where students worked under time constraints to complete collaborative tasks, while navigating different team dynamics and behavioural styles.
In particular, the APU AKPK Grow Club team actively engaged in these activities, demonstrating strong communication, coordination, and adaptability, as they worked closely with other students to complete the challenges effectively, reinforcing the importance of shared leadership and aligning team efforts with sustainable values.

The camp concluded with a pitching competition, where participating teams presented innovative ideas on building and sustaining impactful student clubs.
Building Inclusive and Resilient Leaders beyond the Classroom

The camp provided a meaningful platform for the APU AKPK Grow Club team to deepen their understanding of sustainable leadership beyond environmental responsibility, encouraging them to build inclusive, resilient, and purpose-driven team cultures within student organisations and the wider community, while broadening their perspectives through collaboration with peers from diverse institutions and strengthening their appreciation of leadership guided by shared values.
Overall, the experience helped the students develop and refine key leadership competencies, including communication, adaptability, teamwork, and strategic thinking, which will serve them well in their future academic and professional journeys.
