On 18 August 2025, 40 International Relations (IR) students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) received a rare opportunity, a special invitation to visit the Malaysian Parliament.

Thanks to Bentong Member of Parliament, YB Young Syefura Othman, these students from various countries got a firsthand look at the heart of Malaysia’s democracy.

Organised by Mr Muhammad Syahir Md Ali and assisted by Ms Nurul Hidayah Badrul Ezan from the International Relations Cluster, School of Business (SoB) this educational visit was designed to give students a deep dive into Malaysia’s democratic and legislative practices.

During the visit, students were treated to an extensive tour of the Parliament building.

They had the unique chance to sit in on parliamentary proceedings, observing the protocols of debate and learning about the key roles of Members of Parliament within Malaysia’s legislative system.

The true highlight, however, was a direct and personal interaction with several MPs, including Young Syefura herself and Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming.

Young Syefura offered valuable insights into her duties and spoke about the importance of democratic representation in Malaysia.

For many, this immersive experience left a profound impression, inspiring them to think critically about governance and diplomacy not just in Malaysia, but in their own countries as well.

This visit was not just a lesson in politics; it was a powerful reminder of how important it is for future global leaders to understand democratic institutions.

By opening its doors, the Malaysian Parliament showcased its commitment to transparency, education, and international cooperation.
